Container candles have a memory:  When you light your candle for the first time it is very important to allow your candle to achieve a complete melt pool, before extinguishing. A melt pool is when your candle melts from edge to edge of your container. This will set the candles memory and avoid your candle from tunneling down the center. It will also prolong the burn time of your candle.

Times may vary depending on room temperature and environment.

Trim your wicks:  Use a sharp wick trimmer or scissors to trim the wick. Wicks should be trimmed to ~ 1/4" before each burn.

If the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly the candle may be burning in a draft or the wick may need to be trimmed.

On the other hand, if your flame is weak you may have trimmed your wick to short. If this occurs, extinguish the flame, pour off some of the excess liquid wax into a safe container and your flame will come back to life.

Soot:  Soy candles are a cleaner burning candle when burned properly. However, no candle is 100% soot free. If you see that your candle is accumulating soot in the jar, extinguish the flame and trim the wick.

If you blow out your candle, as opposed to using a wick dipper or extinguisher, you will see smoke and it may cause soot to form around the rim of your jar. Similarly, if you use a lid to extinguish the flame you may also see soot on the rim of your jar.

I recommend use of a wick dipper to extinguish your flame.

What to do if your wick is off center: If you notice your candle is burning off center you can correct it. Simply extinguish your candle and when the liquid wax cools to a slushy state, use a wick dipper to gently guide the wick back to the center.
